Kibera MP, Ken Okoth has once again come out strong to defend the two third gender rule.
Okoth who spoke on Wednesday morning on Citizen TV’s Cheche show said political parties should give women a chance to fight for elective seats. Okoth said the population of women in the country is equal to that of men meaning women can equally carry out activities like men. He said if women are voted, then Kenyans will have nothing to fear.
‘’I assure you, if women are voted, you will have nothing to fear. I urge our parliamentarians to pass the gender rule because it is the only way to see our women take up leadership positions in this country,’ he said.
‘‘A society which does not appreciate women does not value development. Women play a big role to ensure that the society develops,’’ said Okoth.
His stand has been welcomed by Kenyans on Twitter (KOT). Pamela Rita said on Twitter that it is time to pass the gender bill. Another, Joyce Wangui called on the MPs to pass the bill saying women in the country have been held on an unfair standing. She also cautioned women that the chance will not come on a silver platter but by them contesting for different positions in different political parties.
