The four vehicles would be deployed in all the four constituencies in the area and plans to establish an ambulance call centre were under way.

Speaking during the flagging off of the ambulances, Okoth said patients would be charged a minimal fee of Sh400 for the service. He said to sustain the service, his office will only be charging Sh400 and that may be varying due to distance and fuelling.

He also assured area residents that within the next three weeks, there would be a constant supply of drugs to alleviate the current shortage patients were experiencing.

“We are aware of the acute shortage of drugs in the hospitals but I have already talked with health officials and they have assured me that the situation will be solved within the shortest time possible,’’ he said.

Okoth said both patented drugs and the generic ones would be available within the time frame given and added that they had contracted a foreign pharmaceutical firm to be the main supplier through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
