Kibera MP, Ken Okoth has called on the government to arrest all poachers and penalise them.
This comes after a man was caught in Githurai with a heap of ivory.
The call by the MP has also been backed up by many people in Kibera. The residents say poachers should not only face the law but pay for their wrong doings.
‘‘I am not comfortable living in the slums but I work hard to make all ends meet. I can’t steal other people’s property or the property of the government to make money. Riches are good but only if you will work to have them. I wonder how some people can just wake up and say they will kill elephants to grt money. It is very bad,’’ said Richard Murunga.
Julia Kui said she is very sure a person cannot take the elephant tusks alone.
‘’I have never carried any elephant tusks but I believe they are quite heavy. This means those who trade in this exercise are very many. I also hear that they are expensive but these thieves should know that killing the elephants is not right. Animals have rights to,’’ she pointed out.
