He was reacting to the report filed by journalist, Ouma Oluga of the Nation newspaper.

According to Oluga, the governors should not stop singing of the dangers of having few doctors in the country. Oluga said much of the realisation by the governors that the country suffers a shortage of doctors was discovered at a late stage, the government should fix the mess for a better life in future.

Oluga said Kenya has more qualified medics but due to neglect by the government, the medics have emigrated from the country to search for greener pastures.

He sited the assessment report released in May 2015 by the Kenya Health Labour market saying more than 5,000 Kenyan trained doctors had migrated due to reasons attributed to poor pay while 3,000 others left the health sector to join other sectors. Oluga further revealed that there are only 3,440 doctors who are now working for all Kenyans. He pointed out that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) staffing conditions, Kenya has a shortage of 83,000 doctors.

The MP called on the government to keenly look at the situation and act accordingly.
