Kisumu West member of the national assembly Olago Aluoch has asked members of the county assembly to draft bills and motions that will attract local and foreign investors to Kisumu County.
Olago, who was addressing the county assembly on Thursday, said it was worrying that the assemblies had done little in legislating laws or regulations that can boost economic development in the region.
He stated that Kisumu County has potential which include land and natural resources such as the lake that provide avenues for investment. He added that industries such as tourism have not been fully utilized and therefore need for laws that can attract investors to tap the industry.
“I would like to see my county prosper as the assembly draft and pass laws that can bring in more investor by making Kisumu business friendly,” said Olago, adding that this can also lead to employment opportunities.
The region has been lagging behind in the past regimes owing to marginalization, but with the devolved system, they are hopeful that they can make a change with the funds that are trickling in from the national government.
He stated that as MPs they were ready to support assemblies in any way including drafting of bills.
