The Kenya electrical Trades and allied workers union through their general secretary Ernest Nadome has revealed the reason for inflated bills incurred by Kenyans every month.
Mr. Nadome stated that interference with integrated consumer Management system (ICMS) by unscrupulous ministry and Kenya power officials as the root cause of the problem.
“There is deliberate meddling with the ICMS, which has failed Kenyans and not because of lazy workers who are not doing the actual reading as claimed by energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter. There are in Kenya power and the ministry who are behind this and the citizens must know” he said during a briefing before senate committee on Thursday.
Mr. Nadome also stated, the use of old systems to read and estimate power usage across all meters in the country as part of the problem since they were incapable of being accurate.
This comes as energy officials announced that Kenyans are set to enjoy reduced power bills starting July.
In the recent months Kenyans have protested over billing, unavailability of electricity tokens despite making payments by prepaid users among other grievances. Kenya power has been in the spotlight in recent months because of the public outcry.
