Chege says the various primary schools in Thika Sub County need the mentorship programmes to encourage current learners.

Speaking at Kenyatta Primary School on Wednesday when he and other old boys visited the school, Chege noted that many learners were losing morale due to lack of sufficient mentorship.

"Successful old students of various schools in any area are the best placed to offer mentorship to the current young learners having studied in the same environment. Most of us forgot our schools immediately after we left them forgetting that our success can only be attributed to them. I, therefore, call upon all old students of various schools here in Kamenu and larger Thika to go back to their former primary and secondary schools and mentor those youngsters studying there," said Chege.

He said that many schools in the area used to perform well in the past but now the performance has been on a downward trend which he attributed to poor mentorship.

"During our time we used to have the old students come and promise us big prizes as well as show us the essence of working hard while in school. Seeing the kind of good life they were living, we used to work hard to be like them. Nowadays that's no longer there and that is why our children lack motivation because the only thing they hear is that there are no jobs. Let's come back and change this negative perception," he added.

Chege, through his Mia Afrika Sacco, helped repaint the school which looked dull with old, rusty iron sheets. He also helped in donating a plastic water tank.
