Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku has lashed out at Tanzanian President John Magufuli over his recent way of handling cross-border issues.
Speaking during an interview at his office on Tuesday, Lenku said Magufuli's system of dealing with livestock that cross the boarder into Tanzania for grazing was 'shameful' considering that there is drought in Kajiado.
"This is indeed shameful for a leader of his stature to auction our livestock and yet we have hundreds of Tanzanian livestock grazing in our country."
"Why is he creating a wedge between our Maasai communities living in Tanzania and Kenya?" Lenku posed.
He said that while Kenya keeps preaching peace
among communities sharing the border, the Tanzanian president is "busy
demolishing bridges for unknown gains".This comes after Magufuli's stern warning on Tuesday that promised confiscation of
all livestock entering Tanzania from Kenya.
"Tanzania is not a livestock farm...we will take stern legal action for animals that cross into our country."
"We have decided to confiscate and take legal action
against farmers whose livestock will trespass into our country," Magufuli said at a public rally.
