Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop Jackson Ole Sapit has urged politicians and Kenyans to exercise tolerance and humility as the country gears up to the August 8 general election.
Ole Sapit wants politicians to lead peaceful campaigns and avoid making statements that could easily cause divisions among Kenyans.
In an interview with the Standard on Wednesday, the ACK Bishop said that political temperatures are rising ahead of party nominations and subsequent August 8 polls.
“Politicians across the political divide must tone down and tolerate each other for the sake of peace and harmony of Kenyans,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
The clergy warned that acts of intolerance being perpetuated by some politicians is a recipe for chaos. Ole Sapit called on Kenyans to embrace peace and not to be divided by inflammatory statements made by petty politicians.
The ACK Bishop appealed to the national government to guarantee peace and security across the country before, during and after the Auguist 8 election.
He asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) spearhead peace campaigns and unite the country.
Ole Sapit also appealed to religious leaders across the country to intervene over rising political temperatures and pray for peaceful August 8 polls.
