ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to put their personal interests aside and unite the country or risk plunging the county into anarchy.
Speaking at St Peters ACK church in Garissa town on Sunday, Ole Sapit said that the current blame game between the two top leaders is a threat to peaceful co-existence and stability of the country.
Ole Sapit said religious leaders are ready to bring the leaders to a mediating table noting that it was disturbing to watch them ‘pull in different directions as they fight for power at the expense of the suffering Kenyans’.
“It is high time that President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga initiate serious talks that will save our great country from degenerating into total anarchy,” Ole Sapit said.
“No Kenyan in his right mind would wish to experience what happened in 2007/08 where 1,000 lives and property worth millions of shillings destroyed. Kenyans should not forget,” he added.
He advised both Uhuru and Raila to think of integrating their manifestos if they truly have the interest of Kenyans at heart.
Ole Sapit further condemned last Friday's incidences where at least five people were allegedly killed, property looted and destroyed by rowdy youth.
“We have been on the forefront in asking for political tolerance. When we are given a chance we will still convey the same message, that of peace and co-existence,” he said.
Speaking separately, former long-serving cabinet minister and Dujis MP Hussein Maalim Mohamed regretted the direction the country had taken saying that it was in nobody’s interest to see the country burn.
“It is unfortunate that we are finding ourselves in such a situation. we risk losing our country if we are not careful,” Maalim said
