Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has asked the opposition NASA to suspend the planned 'swearing in' of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Ole Sapit said Kenyans cannot afford to go through another round politicking after an exhausting campaign period between May and October 26, 2017 when the country held the repeat election.
"Raila's 'swearing in' contravenes the law. Kenya has a Constitution and all of us are abid by it," the cleric said at the Mumias East ACK church in Mumias on Saturday.
"There is no point for us to disrupt the peace we are presently enjoying. Let's put Kenya first."
Ole Sapit spoke hours after Raila and NASA co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi arrived in Homa Bay County to hold their last consultative meeting on the formations of the people's assembly at the county ahead of their inauguration on January 30.
Already 15 county assemblies have passed the people's assembly motion approving the former Prime Minister's 'swearing in' which the Jubilee administration terms as illegal.
The government has already labelled the inauguration as treasonable which Attorney General Githu Muigai says is punishable by death.
The opposition, however, has insisted the swearing in will go on as planned and no amount of threats from the government will stop the opposition chief from being sworn in.
Raila is also expected to unveil his list of preferred Cabinet Secretaries after the 'inauguration.
