The Vice-chancellor of Kenyatta University, Olive Mugenda is set to retire before the end of the week.
The friendly chancellor is set to retire this Friday, March 18, as she announced.
Ms Mugenda revealed that she was going to leave the institution while speaking to attendees of the international Language and Cultural Centre ceremony which took place at the Kenyatta University main campus along Thika Superhighway. She has been the vice chancellor of the institution for ten years. Students describe her as a charming, friendly and hard working person.
Susan Wafula from Kibera said the chancellor will be remembered for quite a number of successes she brought to the institution
‘‘Mugenda is the first woman to serve as a vice chancellor of a public university. This means she is very had working. She has been a source of inspiration to many. She is a friendly and easy going person who maintained a low profile,’’ she said.
‘‘She worked hard to allow students study online by providing them with free iPods. This has seen KU increase the number of private students in the institution. She has also worked to ensure that KU has a TV station and a radio studio which gives students a chance to be seen and heard on mass media. It has also created jobs for students and non students,’’ she concluded.
