The residents said that they have in a number of times written to the management of the power plant asking them to cover their ponds, but no actions has been taken so far.

Francis Kool who is a resident in the area told the Press that Jane Siroma aged 17 slipped and fell into the drainage pond which was not covered at Olomaiyan Village in Naivasha sub-county.

"It is very sad for someone to die due to negligence caused by the company. We as the community around this place have in a number of times written to the KenGen Management asking them to cover their drainage ponds, but they have adamantly refused to do so. We have lost so many animals due to these uncovered ponds and now we have lost a human being. Enough is enough,” said irked Kool.

Mary Naiwoi an area resident also said that the residents will disrupt all the operations at the power plant if the management does not address their issues.

"We are demanding KenGen to come and apologise to us and to fence the pond so that we can prevent more damages and loss of lives from taking place. We want KenGen management to take full responsibility and failure to do so will lead to disrupt their normal business by us, threatened Naiwoi.

Efforts to talk to the management of KenGen were fruitless as there was no one who was ready to talk to the Press about the issue.
