Giant Italian news outlet CalcioMercato has suggested that Kenyan hitman Michael Olunga is on his way to Italy and could be playing for either Sampdoria or Atalanta at the beginning of the next campaign.
The Harambee Stars hotshot’s loan spell at Spanish side Girona came to an end with the completion of last season, but he is believed to be attracting interest from all of Europe’s middleweight clubs with Atalanta and Sampdoria showing the latest interest in the powerful Kenyan.
"A Kenyan striker is the new name approached in Sampdoria and Atalanta in the last hours. This is Michael Olunga, a powerful striker of 190cm owned by Guizhou Hengfeng, but lent this season to Girona, in La Liga,” CalcioMercato reported.
With strict rules imposed on the purchase of foreign players in the Chinese Super League, it is highly unlikely that Olunga will ever take to the turf in the CSL side’s outfit again.
As such, he has been on the lookout for interesting offers from across Europe.
His request to be exempted from national team duty is also partially to the fact that he wanted to figure out his future as soon as possible before the long holiday.
Mc Donald Mariga was the last Kenyan to play in the Italian top flight with his notable achievement being the 2010 UEFA Champions League triumph with Internazionale.
Atalanta are playing in next season’s Europa League and we could perhaps be seeing him taking to the turf against Europe’s big guns which includes the likes of last year’s English Premiership Champions Chelsea and Arsenal.
