He is said to be eyeing the Kisumu Senatorial seat.

The former Education Assistant Minister who has been in the political wilderness since he lost during the 2013 polls is said to be positioning for the seat which will be left vacant following the declaration of the incumbent Senator Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Prof Nyong'o is set challenge Governor Jack Ranguma.

Sources close to the former legislator said arrangements are already underway and that Prof Olweny will soon declare publicly his candidature.

The veteran politician is said to be banking on his closeness to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to edge out his competitors in what is believed to be an easy ride to the Senate for the Biology Scholar and former Maseno University lecturer.

Omondi Muga, a resident of Muhoroni is convinced the former lawmaker will make his political comeback in style by winning overwhelmingly the Kisumu votes come 2017 but he warned that the ODM politician should not be complacent saying that Kisumu County has in the past had party crushers who cut short the political lives of established politicians.
