[Photo|Ministry of Tourism - Kenya]Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, and Mombasa Deputy governor Dr William Kingi, led other senior government officials in welcoming the docking of the Omani Royal Ship, Fulk Al Salamah, into Mombasa port.Fulk Al Salamah, which means Ship of Peace, is an amphibious transport and logistics ship, assigned to the Royal Yacht Squadron of Oman. The ship is designated on this trip to serve on a cultural tour of historic proportions and retraces the trader’s routes which the Omani would ply in the Eastern Coast of Africa.The ship's journey commenced from Muscat to Zanzibar and Dar-es-Salam, before docking in Mombasa, Sunday morning for a 4-day tour.As a mission of peace, various activities were prepared to celebrate a joint culture that is recognised both in countries.While welcoming the Minister of Oil and Gas of the Sultanate of Oman and his delegation to Mombasa, Balala thanked the Omani government for sending ship to Kenya and stated that the visit would strengthen the ties between the two countries.He noted that the cultural ties between Kenya and Omani date back to the 12th century, bringing about many benefits like formation of the Swahili culture and language.Also present to welcome the Omani ship was the Managing Director of Kenya Ports Authority, among other dignitaries.Leading the Omani delegation was the Minister for Oil and Gas, Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhy. Also present was the KPA MD Catherine Wairi Mturi, the Kenyan Ambassador to Oman Muhamad Dory among other distinguished guests.Kingi conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of the people of Mombasa to the Omani delegation for the visit."We are especially pleased that once again through this visit the people of Oman are refreshing the centuries old ties with the people of Mombasa. We share deep cultural, religious and trade links with the people of Oman. We have family links with the people of Oman. We are bonded together in virtually every sphere," said the deputy governor.He welcomed the Minister and his entourage to enjoy the hospitality of Mombasa and feel free to explore the city and interact with our welcoming people."Mombasa remains a leading destination for investment in the country. We hope our guests will get time to acquaint with the various opportunities for investment as we aim to modernise the city in line with Kenya's Vision 2030 and the Mombasa County Vision 2035," said the deputy county boss.
