Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has said the forthcoming 2017 general election will be a two horse race between Cord and Jubilee.

Omar said Cord is preparing itself for a do-or-die contest in the coming polls.

Speaking on Citizen TV Power Breakfast Show on Thursday, the Wiper secretary general said Cord will not leave anything to chance.

“2017 will be a fierce battle between Cord and Jubilee and we are confident that Cord will emerge the winner and form the next government,” he said.

Omar said that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has failed to address issues facing Kenyans, and do not deserve a second term in office.

The senator cited rampant corruption which he claimed is thriving in the Jubilee government.

“Every day new corruption scandals are reported yet the Uhuru’s government has not shown any commitment to tame graft,” he said.

On the proposed opposition super alliance, the senator said the Wiper Party welcomes the idea.

“As Wiper, we will support any idea which will see the Jubilee government kicked out in 2017,” he said.

Cord is fronting for formation of a super alliance which it says will send Uhuru packing in 2017.

The coalition is said to have reached out to leaders like Gideon Moi of KANU, Martha Karua of Narc Kenya, Isaack Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCU), Wavinya Ndeti of Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) and former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.

The coalition is also courting Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi who is said to be spearheading formation of the super alliance.
