Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has urged the Jubilee government to guarantee the country’s security ahead of the 2017 elections.

The senator said security must be guaranteed, for the 2017 polls to be held in a peaceful manner.

Speaking on Citizen TV Power Breakfast show on Thursday, Omar said acts of terrorism in the northern part of the country pose a threat to next year’s elections.

“The Jubilee government must put in place key strategies that will guarantee security of Kenyans before, during and after the 2017 elections,” he said.

The senator also asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to deploy more security personnel to the Kenyan borders.

He noted that some boarders are porous making it easy for terror agents to sneak into the country and conduct their heinous acts.

While condemning the Mandera attack where 12 people were killed by suspected al-Shabaab militants, the senator urged Kenyans to unite against terrorism.

He said that terror agents only want to create fear and cause fights between Muslims and Christians.

“As Kenyans, we should never be divided by acts of terrorism,” he added.
