Senator Hassan Omar has said he will not pave way for Nyali MP Hezron Awiti to battle it out with Governor Hassan Joho in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.

This comes after Awiti's side claimed that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had asked Omar to shelf his ambition in favour of the Nyali MP.Speaking on Sunday, Omar said Awiti cannot fly the party's flag in the August 8, elections."Awiti will not be Wiper's gubernatorial candidate whichever methodology is used,” said Omar, as quoted by the Standard. "To the contrary, the party leader asked Awiti to be my deputy. He has several times threatened to leave the party over this. Which party in its right mind will ask me to step down in favour of Awiti?" asked Omar.Meanwhile, Omar’s allies have called upon Kalonzo to give the Senator a direct ticket to vie for the seat, arguing that he is the best bet.
