Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has claimed Nyali MP Hezron Awiti defected from Wiper Party ahead of nominations because he had sensed defeat. Speaking at the Akamba Handicraft on Sunday during the launch of Daniel Muange’s Changamwe MP bid, Omar said that he was well-prepared for the nominations, adding that he would have beat Awiti hands down had he not defected.“Don’t think he left because the nominations would have not been free and fair. It is because we were well prepared. If you say ‘Ho’ we prepare ourselves. If you say ‘Ha’, we continue preparing ourselves,” Omar said, as quoted by The Star. Omar also called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto among other leaders to stop meddling into the affairs of Mombasa County as the August polls draw near. Omar said he is ready to send Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho home on August 8. “Anyone who is not from Mombasa, be it the President or any other, keep off the politics of Mombasa so that the people of Mombasa can determine who they want to lead them,” he added. Omar has pledged to correct mistakes made by the current leadership if he rises to power in August.
