Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said Nyali MP Hezron Awiti and Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan will face each other in nominations as they eye the regions governorship ahead of the August elections. The party has ruled out the secret panel method after the members failed to agree on who to front to battle it out with incumbent, Governor Hassan Joho on August 8. Both Awiti and Omar have insisted that they have what it takes to send Joho home. 600 delegates from the six constituencies in Mombasa will determine who the party fronts for the seat. Awiti welcomed the idea saying, “That’s okay. Let the Elections Board decide if it will be a mlolongo or a secret ballot,” said Awiti as quoted by the Star. Ealier on, Awiti had denied allegations that he was involved in a physical fight with Omar over the party ticket in the presence of Kalonzo. Changamwe MP Aspirant Daniel Mwange also welcomed the nominations idea, adding that Awiti deserves to become the next governor of Mombasa. “No negotiations. Let’s face off in nominations. Awiti has carried out party activities for a long time and deserves to lead,” he said. The party is yet to set ground rules in regard to the primaries.
