In what may have a bearing on Mombasa politics, Wiper Party will on Saturday conduct their nominations for the county gubernatorial aspirants. The exercise which is expected to bring to an end the protracted feud between Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti, who are both keen to fly the party flag in the race to unseat Joho will also give new political impetus in the ODM dominated county.Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday confirmed that 600 delegates will take part in the exercise amid fears that the exercise will not be free and fair. Kalonzo, however, has allayed fears of an unfair process.Awiti who has clout in Mombasa politics is optimistic that he will trounce Omar who is also the party Secretary General. Both the Nyali lawmaker and the Senator have maintained that they are equal to the task of unseating Joho who has always said he will be competing against himself in the August poll as there is nobody capable to face him.Awiti is banking on his ethnic community to clinch the seat. However, for Omar who is a native of Mombasa, his support base is limited if the tribal math is anything to by.As to what options will be available for the loser of the exercise remains to be seen. But political rivals have in the past maintained that they will support whoever carries the day.
