Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga for shelveing their political interests for the sake of unity and peace.

Hassan, who unsuccessfully, contested for the Mombasa governor seat in last year's general election, said that Uhuru and Raila did what Kenyans wanted when they decided to work together.

Speaking  to journalists in Jomvu, Mombasa on Friday, the former Wiper Party senator said that their is a sense of calm in the country following Uhuru-Raila political re-union.

Omar said that the country will now move forward and actualize its develoment agenda.

"The last week political re-union of president Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has brought a sense of calm among Kenyans and we pray that all leaders across the divide will follow suit and put aside their difference's for peace, " he said. 

Omar asked Kenyans to embrace peace and support their leaders moving forward.

He said that negative ethnicity and tribalism is to blame for the challenges that ckntiue to fave the country.

The former Wiper secretary general at the same time urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to listen to the reforms the opposition is advocating.

He said that for their to be transparency and fairness in future general elections, electoral reforms is a must.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's meeting with Uhuru last week continues to draw reactions across the divide.

On Friday , Raila said that the handshake with president Uhuru Kenyatta was painful but worth it.

The former Prime Minister who was speaking in Kisii said that he signed pact with Uhuru for the interests of the country and not his own.

On Wednesday, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said that he is seeking a separate meeting with Uhuru when he jets back into the country form Cuba.

Kalonzo said that he alongside Mudavadi and Wetangula have a right to seek audience with the president on matters national dialogue.

A section of ODM politicians have, however, criticised Kalonzo's push terming it unnecessary .
