Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has asked professionals to join politics to uplift the standards of leadership at both the national and county governments.

While hitting at professionals who are shying away from joining politics, the Senator said that their action is to blame for the dwindling leadership standards in the country.

According to Omar who is gunning for the Mombasa governor seat, it is wrong for people with great credentials to "allow mediocre leaders" to lead them and mess up on critical roles.

"Their politics end only in their living rooms where they watch TV news and criticise every other politician," he said.

Omar who was addressing accountants and business leaders during this year's Annual Certified Public Accountants of Kenya seminar held in Mombasa has been very critical of the leadership of Mombasa County.

The Senator's criticism of the level of professionalism in Mombasa County has increased at a time when Governor Hassan Joho is fighting academic credentials’ forgery claims.
