Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has intensified his vote hunt in the race for Mombasa governor after coming up with a new strategy that has seen his popularity rise.
The outspoken Senator has rolled up his sleeves and is now engaging in door to door campaigns.Initially, Joho's re-election was seen as something automatic considering his political stance that has seen him rub shoulders with the Jubilee administration. However, the political tide on the ground seems to be shifting fast as it appears the governor will be forced to fight for his political life.In his new strategy, Omar has decided to raid perceived Joho strongholds starting with Kisauni which the Governor represented in parliament for five years.Omar who is allied to Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party has also invaded Majengo, Mvita and Nyali where the incumbent enjoys immense following. The Senator who is keen to wrestle control of the county from Joho, his erstwhile friend, has opted to keep off NASA presidential campaigns to focus on his own bid. That was more evident when he gave the recent NASA rallies in the Coast region a wide berth.Omar has insisted that he will not drop his bid, amid reports that NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga asked him to shelf his ambition in favour of Joho.
