Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan Omar maintains that Deputy President William Ruto should forget about his 2022 bid given the ‘dark’ record for the Jubilee administration.
The DP is keen on winning the 2022 presidential elections and has since thrown his support behind President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2017 re-election.
Speaking on Monday at Nyamarambe in Kisii County, Omar wondered why the DP was so obsessed with 2022 yet they had an uphill task against the opposition in 2017.
“I wonder why somebody is obsessed with 2022 polls yet they have a mountain to climb in 2017. The Jubilee government has committed all mannerisms of economic crimes and extrajudicial killings and believe me they have lost taste,” he said.
“Ruto should first explain to Kenyans about the economic crisis resulting for massive borrowing before he tells us of 2022. We have other better candidates than him who have shown the ability to lead,” he said.
Omar also expressed his ‘confidence’ that the DP would not get automatic support from Mt Kenya, and accused him of propelling tribal political marriage.
“Jubilee is a creation of two communities which the DP is part of. I am confident that his other partners (Mt Kenya) will not give him automatic support and time has come for him to swallow the truth,” he said.
