Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has filed a petition seeking to nullify the re-election of Governor Hassan Joho.According to Omar, Joho's win did not reflect the will of the people of Mombasa. In a petition filed on Friday, Omar claimed that the exercise was marred by illegalities and irregularities that saw Joho, who is the ODM deputy party leader, declared the winner.Omar, a former commissioner of Kenyan National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) now wants a fresh governor election held in the county.This comes a day after Omar resigned as Wiper secretary general.In a letter written to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, Omar said he had told Kalonzo and NASA presidential Candidate Raila Odinga that he would quit the party in the event he failed to be elected Mombasa governor."That was not rhetoric. It is still the case. As such it is unlikely that I will play any part in your October 17 presidential quest but nonetheless I wish you all the best," read the letter in part.He, however, thanked his party boss Kalonzo for the support he accorded him when he was a member of the political outfit.Joho won the Mombasa gubernatorial race after garnering 221, 363 votes. Jubilee’s Suleiman Shahbal was in second position with 69, 429 votes.Omar came in a distant third with 43, 790 votes.
