Mombasa senator Hassan Omar has questioned the capacity of the county government to keep the county clean.
Omar also demanded an action to be taken on officials in charge of environment department, accusing them of grand corruption.
In a press conference on Monday, Omar claimed that visitors had complained on the ‘filthy’ surrounding, adding that the tragedy might affect inflow of tourists.
“For the last one month, I have been moving around the county and I can conclude that our garbage collection system is a scandal. The town is filthy all over,” he said.
“It is filthy because someone is stealing the money allocated. The governor may not know much about procurement and that is why he has to take responsibility and sack those involved. We want a clean city to promote tourism,” he added.
Omar, who has also shown interest in the gubernatorial seat, urged the governor to crack a whip regardless of ethnic and religious affiliations of the culprits.
