Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has hit out at Governor Hassan Joho for allegedly planning to build a Sh390 million home at the expense of taxpayers.
Speaking on Monday at the Sarova Whitesands Resort in Mombasa during a multi-sectoral caucas organised by his office, Omar criticised Joho for 'neglecting' the people of Mombasa.
"You don't live in 300 million houses at the beaches facing the sea yet the people of Mombasa are poor in a poor county," said Omar.
He said that as a leader, the governor should live near the people.
"If majority of them live below the poverty line, then as a leader, you should live nearer to them," he added.
However, Mombasa County Director of Communications Richard Chacha has dismissed the claims, terming them as false and baseless.
Chacha said the county does not have any plans to set up a private house for the governor.
"Where is the budget? Where is the house? Ask him to show you the house," said Chacha.
Omar, who has declared interest in the county's top seat in 2017 has been recently been a major critic of Joho.
