Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has lauded Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto for joining the NASA coalition.Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, Omar who is eyingthe Mombasa Governor seat said the decision by Ruto is bold, considering the ethnic nature of Kenyan politics where all politicians are expected to coalesce around one party that is associated with a particular tribe. While commenting on the Bomet Governor’s impact to NASA in the run to the August polls, the Wiper Secretary General said Ruto’s decision will tilt the political scales in favour of NASA as the battle for the vote-rich South Rift region intensifies. When he was officially unveiled as NASA’s fifth principal after leading his Chama Cha Mashinani Party into NASA last Thursday in an event held at the Bomas of Kenya, the Governor promised to deliver 1.5 million for the coalition come the August polls. However, despite the growing optimism in NASA that Ruto’s entry is a game-changer for Rift Valley politics, a section of Jubilee leaders in the region have downplayed his decision, as they plot for his downfall in the August 8 elections.
