Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has said the county’s low voter turnout was due to alleged threats by NASA that residents who will turn up and vote would be attacked.Omar at a press briefing in Mombasa on Friday claimed that most voters in the county especially those supporting Jubilee were threatened and warned against turning up to vote.“You read all over social media people being warned. So how would you expect a high voter turn out?” he posed.Omar said even though the voter turnout throughout the country remained low, a majority of voters who cast their ballot voted for Uhuru.Opposition chief Raila Odinga in the run-up to the repeat poll instructed his supporters to stay away from Thursday’s election citing IEBC’s laxity to conduct reforms that would ensure free, fair and transparent election.Omar also hit out at NASA leaders following the formation of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and likened the movement to criminal groups whose agenda is to cause mayhem in the country.“The government should not allow NRM to operate and its leaders must be questioned on their motive,” the former Wiper secretary general said on Thursday.
