Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan has exuded confidence that he will clinch the gubernatorial seat even if his three rivals decided to combine forces in the forthcoming general polls.
Omar, who spoke during the launch of the Citizen Manifesto Initiative at Renaissance Centre on Wednesday, said that incumbent Ali Hassan Joho, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti and Jubilee Point man Suleiman Shabhal are no threat to his candidature come August 8.
“If you take my brother Awiti, put him together with Shahbal and add Joho, then blend them, they still will not match me,” Omar claimed, as quoted by the Star.
The senator further took a swipe at Shabhal, saying that he will be better off working as a banker rather than joining a race he is sure of losing.
“But I advise him to be the Governor of Central Bank and not Mombasa county,” said Omar.
The legislator also said that the experience the Jubilee aspirant will not change anything in Mombasa, adding that he will do better despite lacking knowledge to do with banking.
He further downplayed allegations that Mombasa county requires a boss who is business minded, arguing that doing business does not qualify one to be called a businessman.
“They say if you are a businessman you know how to make money. Even bank robbers make money, but it doesn’t make them businessmen,” he said.
The Senator has been very vocal when it comes to matters of the county. He has been launching attack after attack against the current leadership for failing to keep the promises made before the late general elections.
The legislator will, however, have to go a long way to clinch the seat after parting ways with Awiti.
