Speaking during an interview on KTN's Morning Express Show on Monday, Omar said his education background is what earned him the seat during the 2013 general election.

He argued that the people of Mombasa chose him because they believed he was well educated and thus would fully represent them at the Senate.

"As a leader, I lead from the forefront. No matter how I address the public, I represent the people of Mombasa County well. My education gave me the seat since the people of Mombasa won't vote for someone who is not educated to represent them in parliament and Senate,” he said.

He said it was high time leaders came up with ways of helping young people in society achieve their education dreams for a better future.

"Leaders should not fail to help needy students attend school and training though CDF programmes among other scholarships. Parents should also work hard to educate their children for a better future,” said Omar.

The Wiper secretary general has declared interest in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in 2017.
