Wiper Party secretary general and Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar wants affiliate parties under the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) to conduct joint rallies instead of separate rallies as being done by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Omar says that separate rallies will not help strengthen Cord, adding that the coalition will be popular if joint rallies and campaigns are done.
“I am not of the idea of conducting separate rallies. We need to join together as Cord and do joint rallies,” he said.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Monday, Omar noted that while affiliate parties under Cord have the right to organize their own rallies, it is important for leaders in the coalition to move together.
“We need to see our co-principals move together and popularise Cord as we work on getting the presidential flag bearer,” he added.
On Monday, Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka proposed that Cord be registered as a political party to counter Jubilee Party in 2017.
Kalonzo said that he has proposed the idea to Cord leader Raila Odinga and co-principal Moses Wetangula.
ODM been conducting separate rallies over the past two months.
The party has also endorsed Raila Odinga as its preferred presidential candidate in 2017.
There have been claims that ODM might abandon Cord and go on its won in the 2017 elections with Raila as its presidential flag bearer and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho as his running mate.
