Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has rejected calls by Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot to join the political outfit ahead of the forthcoming general election.Ekuru had asked the Wiper secretary general to consider joining his alliance as he seeks to smoke out Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in August. Omar, however, turned down the offer saying the alliance does not have influence in the nation’s political arena.According to Ekuru, politics is not a dirty game as many people have labeled it, adding that Omar should not walk with leaders who have been involved in mega scandals such as Goldenberg, Anglo Leasing, and Kazi kwa Vijana as he seeks to grow politically. “Politics is not for dirty people and it is not supposed to be dirty,” Aukot said, as quoted by The Star. Omar argued he is in a better position to end runway corruption in the county as a Wiper member as opposed to being in the Thirdway Alliance. The calls to join the Thirdway Alliance come at time when Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party is yet to agree on who between Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti will fly the party's flag in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
