Former Wiper Secretary General Hassan Omar has denied claims that he is heading to Jubilee after he was promised an ambassadorial post.Omar who lost to Governor Hassan Joho in the Mombasa gubernatorial race said he was not promised anything and his move to ditch Wiper was purely a personal decision.Addressing journalists at Renaissance centre in Kizingo on Monday, Omar refuted claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to appoint him the Kenyan Ambassador to the United States.“I repeat, this was my personal decision, how many times should I tell you that I have not been promised anything and I am not heading to Jubilee,” he said. He, however, said he will inform members of the public about his next move.“I promise you that I will call another briefing to tell you which steps I will have taken but not now,” he added.
Omar also revealed that he was heading to court to challenge the re-election of Joho as Mombasa governor.
“I have enough evidence that the Mombasa gubernatorial race was a sham. I am heading to court to challenge the re-election of Joho as Mombasa governor,” said Omar.
This comes after a section of opposition leaders criticised Omar for ditching Wiper, terming him a Jubilee mole.
ODM Mombasa chair Mohamed Hatimy said Omar should have defended his seat instead of opposing Joho.
“We could have voted in Omar if he defended his seat but criticizing Joho never won him Mombasa votes. We knew he was heading to Jubilee by opposing Joho and that was a well-planned scheme by Jubilee leaders,” said Hatimy.
