Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has broken his silence over claims that he had stepped down from the race to dethrone Governor Hassan Joho in 2017.

Omar took to his Twitter account on Thursday to dispel reports that he had shelved his ambition to pave way for Joho to retain the seat in the next general poll.

Omar said he has what it takes to change the lives of Mombasa residents once he is given the mandate to become the next county boss.

He is among leaders who have accused Joho of poor leadership.

The outspoken senator has affirmed that he will fight for the rights of residents regardless of their age, tribe, gender and political affiliations upon election.

Omar has in the past claimed that Joho has run out of ideas that can transform the economy of Mombasa thus does not deserve a second termin office.

The Mombasa gubernatorial contest will be a tough race as it has attracted the wealthy and the mighty including Nyali MP Hezron Awiti, businessman Suleiman Shahbal and Former Kisauni MP Ananiah Mwaboza.
