Senator Hassan Omar has said he will bow out of the Mombasa gubernatorial race if he loses the Wiper Party nominations.
Omar, further said that he will back Nyali MP Hezron Awiti if he beats him in the party primaries.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Omar accused Governor Hassan Joho of failing to keep his pre-election pledges, adding that a Wiper candidate should be elected as governor.
“I and Mr Awiti will sort it out at the nomination and I can assure you that whoever wins will be supported by the others,” said Omar, as quoted by the Nation.
He said the party respects democracy hence will not rig out any candidate who qualifies to vie for any position during the up coming polls.
The senator urged residents to vote for Wiper, arguing that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) under the leadership of Joho had done little to transform the region’s economy.
“You as well as everybody else know that for sure ODM has failed on all its promises. There are huge holes in service delivery and therefore, a Wiper candidate would be the peoples’ best solution,” he said.
The outspoken leader also said that ODM enjoyed massive support from the people but has done nothing for them in return.
“ODM received 100 per cent support from Mombasa people. They got all the seats from the governor to MCAs and county administrator, but what do they have to show?” he posed.
