Speaking on Friday, Omar dismissed attempts by the Jubilee Party to unseat Governor Hassan Joho, noting that party’s aspirants do not understand the Coastal city's political dynamics.

“Jubilee doesn’t stand a chance in Mombasa. They do not understand the dynamics of Mombasa politics,” he said.

Omar, however, observed that governor Joho may not win the seat either, citing unfulfilled pre-election promises in the 2013 general election.

“ODM received 100 per cent support from Mombasa people. They got all the seats from the governor to MCAs and county administrator, but what do they have to show?” he asked.

The Senator is set to vie for governorship on a Wiper Party ticket, where he will face off with Nyali MP Hezron Awiti in the party primaries.
