Senators allied to Jubilee coalition have been challenged to shoot down the controversial election amendment laws that have sparked a heated debate from across the political divide.
The Senate is set to discuss recommendations from its legal committee which was tasked to collect opinions from various stake holders.
Mombasa senator Omar Hassan said the amendments would further divide the country should the senate validate them.
“Kenya belongs to all of us and Jubilee cannot be right all the times. It is time Jubilee senators to stand and be counted on the right side of history,” he said.
“These laws emanated from a special committee that settled on a bipartisan principle. Should we disagree at the legal committee, it is responsibility of all senators to stand and show leadership,” he said on Sunday.
The laws had been passed by the National Assembly after a stormy session that saw opposition MPs boycott the session.
