Mombasa senator Hassan Omar has condemned cases of extrajudicial killings, saying lives of suspected criminals should not be cut shot.

He said he is appalled by the levels of insecurity in the country and shared concerns that Kenyans are facing, saying as a nation, we must never live in fear

Citing recent killings of suspected Eastleigh criminal gang members in Nairobi, the lawmaker indicated it is unacceptable to fight crime with official crime.

''I have read with shocking disbelief my dear Countrymen pushed to the desperate depths of insecurity justify, sanitise, rationalise or mitigate extrajudicial executions.''

The former commissioner at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) further acknowledged the State's duty to protect and honour the courageous men and women in uniform who in the line of duty, pay the ultimate price of their lives to keep Kenyans safe.

''And yes I have been carjacked and robbed, mugged on the streets of Nairobi, lost valuables and people close and known to me through crime. I have felt the anger and pain and desired to shoot dead all criminals, but I am not them.''

In a statement, Tuesday, Omar urged Kenyans to stand on a higher calling and pedestal of duty and responsibility, and help condemn extrajudicial killings.
