Senator Hassan Omar who is eying the Mombasa governor seat in the August 8 polls has dismissed Governor Hassan Joho’s perceived popularity, terming it a mirage.
According to the Senator, Joho's administration has been reduced to a talk-shop delivering marginally on the pledges they made in the run up to the 2013 elections, something he said will cost him in his bid for a second term in office.Omar vowed to wrestle power from the ODM deputy party leader, adding that the Governor is no longer enjoying the kind of support that once made him appear unbeatable."It is so evident that the Governor no longer enjoys any form of support. The clearest indicator is that all the members of the County Assembly loyal to him were routed out in the party primaries. Now, how can the voters kick out his MCAs and vote for him? It is not practical,” said Omar, as quoted by the Nation. He further accused Joho of reducing the County Assembly into a rubber stamp to perpetuate ills and swindle funds. The outspoken senator said Joho’s administration has failed, adding that the outcome of ODM nominations that saw majority of MCAs lose is an indicator that the political tide in the county has shifted.
