Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar's bid to unseat Governor Hassan Joho has received a major boost after getting two endorsements over the weekend.

On Saturday, a faction of members of the Somali community vowed to throw their weight behind the Wiper Secretary General.Through their chairman Mohamed Hurie Ibrahim, the group noted that Omar is the right man to champion for their interests in the next five years. In a Facebook post on Monday, Omar noted that the community’s leaders had met with all the other candidates before arriving to the decision to support his candidature.“The community cited the myriad failures of the current county government and expressed their support for my bid on account of leadership, honesty and vision to steer Mombasa to the next level,” he said.He expressed confidence in clinching the seat come August 8, adding that he does not take the endorsement for granted.“I am certain that the silent revolution will replace the current government on 8th August, 2017. I affirm that I will reorganise government and transform the county,” he added.Members of the Bajuni community also pledged to support the Wiper Party candidate in his gubernatorial ambitions. The endorsement comes days after the Luo and Kamba communities pledged their support for Omar.
