Former Law Society of Kenya boss Okong’o Omogeni has warned embattled IEBC commissioners against tampering with the voters register.

Omogeni argues that the commissioners were deemed to have resigned following the findings of a joint Senate and National Assembly committee.

And on Wednesday during a phone interview with this writer, Omogeni ruled out any possibility of the commissioners being in office and challenged them to hand over power to the secretariat.

“Legally speaking, the job of these commissioners ended the moment the Joint Senate and National assembly committee reached a consensus to send them packing and that is so plain even for a layman,” he said.

“They should not be allowed to tamper with the register and all matters pertaining the elections should be directed to the secretariat. And if they are honest with Kenyans, they should vacate office whether or not we have new commissioners in place,” he said.

The Issack Hassan-led team has been under pressure from the opposition Cord calling for their resignation.

And last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta declared the posts vacant following their resignation but they will remain in office until a new team is officially unveiled.
