A 20-year-old woman was on Sunday arrested by police in Kikuyu after a two-week manhunt for allegedly dumping an infant immediately after birth.
The infant was dumped two weeks ago along Kikuyu Road few metres from the Kikuyu Hospital after delivery.
The two-day-old infant was rescued by good samaritans who reported the incident and the child taken to Tumaini children's home in Thogoto where she is being attended to as police launched a hunt for the suspect.
However this morning, police were tipped off by some residents who knew the lady was pregnant and they didn't see the baby as she claimed her child died during birth.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu said that the suspect was arrested at her home in Ondiri.
"We have been hunting for the suspect for the past 2 weeks after the incident happened. It is a serious crime to neglect an infant. The suspect will face the wrath of the law," he said.
He said that the hospital details that were recorded before she delivered have helped in identifying her as the suspect in the crime.
He added that serious measures will also be taken against any medics who promote the vice.
