The National Civil Society Congress (NCSC) will this week present the Ondoa Panya Movement (OPM) to the Nakuru County assembly.
The campaign, which will involve state agencies mandated to ensure accountability in the use of public resources, is aimed at discouraging county assemblies from overspending.
Speaking to the press over the weekend, NCSC vice chairperson Cidi Otieno said the activists will visit Nakuru County assembly on Wednesday to caution MCAs against imprudent spending and corruption.
“We will be launching our campaign in Nakuru and later visit the assembly to let them know of our intentions and demands,” said Otieno.
Otieno added that the campaign will be carried out at all county assemblies and that Nakuru will be their first county as they seek to curb corruption.
The Ondoa Panya campaign was launched last month and involves human right groups who have accused MCAs’ of irresponsible spending.
The campaign is similar to last year’s Occupy Parliament protests which were meant to express displeasure with the parliamentarians over their spending and huge salaries they had approved for themselves.
Recently, the MCAs have been criticised for their lavish spending of public money in foreign trips, which county assemblies have defended were meant to help ward representatives acquire new skills from other democracies.
