A form two student at Onjiko High School in Nyando Sub County, Kisumu County was on Sunday arrested following a dormitory fire on Saturday night.
The school Principal Peter Auma confirmed that the student was with the Criminal Investigative officers at Ahero police station.
Auma said that preliminary investigations point at the student.
“I can confirm that one of our students has been arrested and helping the police with investigations following fire in our school,” he said.
Auma said the bag of the student was used to carry petrol that was used to ignite fire at the 160 capacity student.
The Principal has in the meantime closed the school indefinitely following the incident at the institution.
He said the fire started when the students were in the evening preps and it took the intervention of students and teachers to put it out.
Auma said students lost the valuables as nothing was salvaged from the fierce inferno.
“All the valuables of the students in the dormitory situated in the ground floor was razed, nothing was salvaged,” he said.
He said Form Four students will be expected in school later this week while the rest of the students will resume studies next week.
Kisumu County Commander Titus Yoma confirmed that an investigation is on course to establish the real cause of the fire.
