Police in Mombasa on Monday arrested one person during NASA’s anti-IEBC protests.According to Citizen Digital, business was brought to a temporary standstill in some parts of Mombasa as oppositions supporters gathered in strategic areas ready for the protests. The protesters were accompanied by different leaders including Mombasa Deputy Governor William Kingi and Mvita MP Abdulswad Nassir.Police officers lobbed teargas to disperse the supporters who had defied an order by acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.Last week, Matiang’i banned NASA protests in Central Business Districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. Opposition leaders have however maintained that they will continue with the protests until the electoral body heeds to their demands.NASA leaders have argued that the electoral commission has proven that it is not ready to conduct a free and fair exercise following the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win by the Supreme Court.
