Transport was interrupted for the better part of Friday evening following a tanker accident at the Machakos junction along Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Confirming the incident, the Energy Regulatory Commission, in an alert, said the accident involved empty LPG tanker and a trailer, killing the driver of the trailer.
"An accident involving an empty LPG tanker and a trailer has occurred near the Machakos junction. The driver of the trailer has been reported dead."
"The road is completely blocked and there is heavy traffic build up. The police are however on the site," ERC said on Friday evening.
The scene was cleared hours later, to allow smooth flow of traffic which had locked both sides, including those from Machakos town.
The cause of the accident is yet to be established.
