An Al-Shabaab suspect was killed, another arrested as one of their colleagues escaped following a foiled planned terrorist attack in the country.
Police who acted on intelligence reports from within the country and the neighbouring Somalia intercepted a cache of arms believed to belong to Al-Shabaab militant group in Meriti, Isiolo County.
The suspected terrorists engaged the police officers who had trailed their vehicle from the Kenya-Somali boarder to Meriti, in a shootout, with some of the police officers sustaining minor injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicated the suspects had contacts in Nairobi whom the police are now following closely, even as the targets of the attack remain unknown.
During the incident, police also impounded a vehicle connected with the explosives that was to be used by the suspects for the terror attack.
"The police foiled the planned terror attack and recovered explosives and improvised electronic devices. Detonators, mobile phones, knives and fire arms were also seized," reported KBC, on Friday.
The foiled terror attack came hours after Al-Shabaab terrorists attacked a primary school in Wajir, killing three teachers.
